Praise be to Allah, the lord of the worlds, the Creator of heavens and earth Who made Islam contain all affairs. Allah says: (﴿مَا فَرَّطْنَا فِي الْكِتَابِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ {الأنْعام:6\38}) “We have not neglected in the Register a thing.” We praise and thank Him for His grace and honour and seek help from Him … I testify there is no god but Allah alone, the Sovereign, the all-knowing. I testify that Muhammad (pbuh) is his servant and messenger. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.

Having said that,

Dear Muslims, I enjoin you all and myself to revere Allah in the open and in the secret. Allah says:

﴿ يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ فُرْقَانًا وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ﴾ {الأنفال:8\29}

” O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.” (8: 29) .

Honored Muslims, today’s sermon is the first in Sofar. Last two sermons have been dedicated to the elucidation on political matters being the issue of the moment in Nigeria as we prepare for the general elections in 2019 We discussed The Modern Electoral Process: Evolution And Rulings, and THE ISLAMIC UNDERSTANDING OF POLITICS. However, today’s topic is The differences between Shariah based Politics and the manmade system of politics.

Honoured Muslims, the differences between the islamic politics and the fabricated politics are

Distinguished Muslims, the differences between islamic politics and positivist politics are obvious and fundamental, emanating from the nature of the systems and laws that the peoples have adopted in each of them, starting from the issues regarding sources of proofs  and the fundamental principles, to issues and detail jurisprudence. This is thus an interesting topic, however, we would not delve into details at this juncture. Therefore these are models for the broad issues and major differences, which shall be explained in general:

The differences (in terms of the source): The source of Islamic politics is divine, while the origin of the man-made politics is human thought. This is the basis of difference from which other differences emanate.

1- The Islamic (legitimate) politics is a religious obligation, for it is a part of the final divine message; a duty in Islam, the true religion revealed by Allah as a creed and law, and as a religion which governs the world. Thus the word politics has been qualified with the word (legitimate) islamic. From this point, it is therefore free from all rationalists policies, intellectually or naturally, based on the independence of the Islamic law from all other forms of laws including methods, systems and statutes. This is in order to establish the purposes of the Caliphate which is based on two main interests (see: Al-Ahkaamus- Sultaaniyyah Wal wilaayaat ad-deeniyyah, Al-Mawaridi: 51)

(a) Establishment of Islam- the true religion: This would be by protecting and watching over it, proclamation and spreading it because it is the last religion and Allah would not accept any other religion after the commissioning of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah says: “Whoever seeks non-Islam will not accept it, and in the hereafter he will be one of the losers.” It also include the protection of the core, including the strategic depth of the nation and the sites of its sovereignty, and the fortification of the gaps, granting it the pride, and extending its boundaries.

(b) Controlling the world affairs through the religion: That all matters of life should be conducted in accordance with the rules of Shari’a and its principles and provisions, which are provided for or devised with due diligence, in accordance with the basic rule of governance: ( إنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلاَّ لِلّهِ ) (the decision is only for Allah) by implementing the provisions, establishing laws and prescribed criminal laws and enacting legitimate systems, and impressing that on people through legitimate manners of persuasion and warning.

Manmade policies:

The status policies: its enforcement is the enforcement of the human-made laws, imposed by the strong human will (the constitutions of status), protecting it by its power, and those who violate it are criminalized as breaking the law. This is a kind of human enslavement that have replaced the worship of the Lord of mankind (the “principle of lawlessness” have become an ideological and political  thought, revealing the extent of human tyranny, and the extent to which the human mind could decline if left uncultured, see for example: the contemporary political encyclopedia, Nabila Daud: 34. Eventhough it contains some remnant of abrogated religion, such as Judaism and Christianity. In discussing this principle see: (The characteristics of Islamic legislation in politics and governance, by Dr. Muhammad al-Dirini: 385)

Or the innovated religion like Buddhism and Hinduism. The contemporary positivist policies are based on the separation of politics from religion (The characteristics of Islamic legislation in politics and governance, by Dr. Muhammad al-Dirini: 371-381).

Hence, the commitment to human made politics is the utmost injustice. Even where it has been put into attractive formations and supported by brilliant slogans – from feudal slavery to colonialisation to usurp the goods of other countries and to the contemporary democracy in its racist forms (Modern Political History and Contemporary International Relations) (التاريخ السياسي الحديث والعلاقات الدولية المعاصرة).

Thus, the fundamental difference here in the purpose of politics: “The politics of life matters in the Islamic approach is based on the legitimate view, and in the context of the full servitude to Allah, but in the human-made systems it is based on the requirement of mental consideration, or the requirement of passion and thirst outside the circle of servitude or worship, and that represents the crossroads between the two ways “(Al-wajeez fi fiqh al-khilaafah, Dr. Salaah Al-Sawy: 51).

In conclusion: The Islamic politics is based on the purpose of being servitude to Allah, the exalted, manifested in the call to Him and conduct of governance by His laws. While man invented politics is based on the separate of religion from the state or the secular ideology.

Characteristics and peculiarities of Islamic politics:

The main characteristics of this politics are:

(a) – It is Shariah oriented: that is it is premise on the laws of Allah, thus its goal is sacred: which is the protection of the divine law from being stepped down or transgressed upon. And should be presented to the people as Allah ordered.

(1) – it is a kind of policy which means are sacred, by way of its clarity and transparency as much as possible, without obscuring it. Allah says: (ودُّوا  لو تدهن فيدهنون) “They wish that you would soften (in your position), so they would soften (towards you)” [Qalam: 9]: The Islamic legitimate politics would poses only one outlook representing the legitimate face in its loyalty and hostility to be seen by all people.

(2) – It is a form of politics based on uprightness, moderation, tolerance and honouring of God’s symbols. Allah says: “So to that (religion of Allah) invite, (O Muhammad) and remain on the right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations, …” (Shura:15)

(3) – It is a form of politics that believe in Allah, the exalted and in the unseen. Such that Allah supports the faithful little group over the many army with His permission, the angels can descend by Allah’s support for the believers. But with her faith it earn the reasons for victory and empowerment.

Of the characteristics of the Islamic politics are:

(b) Politics of wisdom:

(1) Flexibility: it is flexible and not rigid based on the legitimate and juristic proofs, while benefitting from and being guided by its principles without overzealousness nor ignorance, the prophet- peace be upon him says: “”May Allah have mercy on a man who hears from me and discharge it as he heard it, many atimes the one who the message is conveyed do comprehend it than the direct hearer.”

(2) – Observing the current situation with its visible and internal details, and the awareness of the jurisprudence of reality, in all its initial and changing dimensions. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “As for us, we will separate the verses, and you will find the way of the criminals.” [Al-An’am: 6/55].

(3) – It is politics of far-sighted, looking at the effects of words and deeds in the condition and in wealth. The seerah of the Prophet is full of evidence of this status, of such is the treaty of hudaibiyah.

(4) – It is also a politics of balance between benefits and evil, distinguishing between benefits and disadvantages, and choosing the most effective in the protection of the nation and the religion, but without detracting from its lofty meaning and beautiful values.

(5) it is a realistic: There is no place for fantasies, dreams, illusions and disobedience.

(6) A compassionate politics to the Muslims, even if they are sinners, and to non-Muslims provided they are not oppressive.

(7) It enjoin good and forbid evil

All praises are due to Allah, May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the prophet, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.

As to what follows,

Dear faithful, it is regrettable, and worth mentioning at this time, a sinister incident in the city of Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria, where people and cars were dumped in a pond. There were nineteen bodies, thirteen (13) cars and six (6) motorcycles. The reason for these discovery was the disappearance of MAJOR GENERAL IDRIS ALKALI. The security men and the police were looking for this man until they reached the pool and the inhabitants at first sight were preventing them from reaching the pond.

Oh Allah descend peace; flowing with continuous tranquility and security upon Nigeria and all other Muslim nations. O Allah accept the worship of the pilgrims of hajj and Umrah, and grant us all Your pleasure, And the last of our call will be, “Praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds!”
