Praise be to Allah, the lord of the worlds, the sustainer of the heavens and earth, the disposer of the affairs of all creation who honoured man with the best prophet. I praise and thank Him for His grace and honour and beseech Him for more. I testify there is no god but Allah alone, the compassionate, the merciful, the generous, the Perpetual Forgiver. I testify that our leader- Muhammad (pbuh) is his servant and messenger, his beloved and chosen one among his creation, the leader of the children of Adam.  He is the leader of the messengers, the seal of prophets, the mercy offered to the universe, the illuminating lamp. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.

Having said that,

Dear Muslims, I enjoin you and I to fear Allah in accordance with the verse:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ ( آلعمران : 102 )

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].” (3: 102) .

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam this is the second khutbah in the month of Jumaadal- Thaniyah we are continuing our discussion on the theme: The peculiarities of Islamic discourse in the era of globalization. Of the 15 peculiarities of Islamic discourse in the era of globalization as enumerated by Sheikh Yusuf Qardawi, we have discussed seven of those. Today we shall focus on the eighth peculiarity which is: “adopt a global advocacy and orientation, without overlooking the local and regional realities”

Dear honored Muslims, it is imperative that religious discourse in this era of globalization should adopt a global advocacy and orientation, without overlooking the local and regional aspects, and that is our advocacy, for two basic reasons:
Firstly, this is the nature of the Islamic dawah (call), it is not an Arab call, nor ethnic dawah nor regional one. Rather it is a message for the entire universal, announced since its inception in Makkah, with a its followers few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct them. Allah said to His Prophet in chapter of Al-Anbiya, (a Makkan surah) thus: (وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ) “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (21: 107). He also said in Surah Al-Furqan, (a Makkan surah) thus: (تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا) “ Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner “ (25: 1). Also in Surah As-Saad, Allah says: (إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ (87) وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ) It is but a reminder to the worlds. And you will surely know [the truth of] its information after a time.” The description of the as being a reminder for the worlds reverberate in more than a chapter.

In Suratul A’raaf is an order from Allah to His Messenger: Say, [O Muhammad], “O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.” (7: 158)

The Holy Prophet exemplify the characteristics that distinguish him from the prophets before him, some of which includes: “The Prophet was sent to his own people, but I was sent to all people” (agreed upon).
At the first opportunity presented to the Messenger of Allah- peace be upon him- after the treaty of hudaibiyyah he directed his letters to chosrus, Caesar and other kings of the earth in the Arabian Peninsula, inviting them to Islam.
The universality of Islam is one of the constant indisputable certainties.

The second reason is that isolation is no longer status of relevance. It is not possible for a scholar or preacher to close the doors of his mosque or his institute on himself and his congregations or students, telling them what he wish to say without being heard by anyone.

The world has converged until it became almost as a single village, some refers to it as (the big village). Sheikh Qaradawi (may Allah protect him) says: It is no longer a big village, but a small one. In a big village, people in the east would not be aware of what is happening in the west until after a day or more. But in the world today, we know what happens there a few moments after the incident; even we could follow the event while it is happening, moment after moment, as a result of the Revolution of the current communication.
It is for this we should know that what is said on the Mimbar in a remote village in Indonesia or Nigeria, or in Morocco or Sudan is been transmitted by the news agencies in the world, broadcast in the whole countries of the world.
Between Globalization and Universality:
We must distinguish between the meaning of universality and the meaning of globalization. Many people are confused of the understandings. But in fact there is a big difference between the content of the universality which was brought by Islam, and the content of globalization advocated by the West in general and America in particular.

The universality in Islam is based on honoring all the sons of Adam (mankind) (وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدم) “And We have certainly honored the children of Adam(17: 70).  Allah made them successor on the land, and made subservient to them what is in the heavens and on the earth, all from him. As well as on the basis of equality among people in the origin of human dignity and that of basic obligations and that they are all partners in servitude to Allah, and in the descent of Adam, as the Holy Prophet said, peace be upon him, in front of the crowds during the Farewell Pilgrimage: “O people, your Lord is One, and your father is one, hear me, there is no preference for an Arab over a non-Arab, and none for the non-Arab over the Arab, nor for the red over the black, nor for the black over the red, except with piety … “(Narrated by Ahmad).

By this, he asserts the decision of the Quran in his message to the people- all people: (يَاأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ وَأُنْثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ) “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” (49:13).
But the Qur’an in this verse that emphasizes the general equality among human beings, has not repealed the peculiarities of the people, it admits that Allah made them nations and tribes to know one another.

But for globalization- what is clear to us from advocacy for it until today- is that it is an imposition or dominance; economically, culturally, socially and politically; of the United States on the world, especially the Eastern region of the world, and the third world, especially the Muslim world. The United States, with her scientific and technological superiority, and her enormous military strength, and her compelling economic prowess, coupled with her self acknowledge position of the leadership of the world, she wants to direct mankind with her staff!

In the American understanding, the concept of globalization does not mean the dealing of a brother to his brother, as Islam wants it, even not the dealings of the equals, as the free and honorable men of the world want, rather, it means the dealing of masters to slaves, of Giants with the dwarfs, and the arrogant with the weak vulnerable.
Globalization in its clearest images of today means, ‘Westernization of the world’ or in other words: ‘Americanizing the world’. It is a polite name for the new colonization, which took off its old garment, dropping its old methods, to exercise a new era of dominance under the umbrella of this soft title- globalization. It means, the imposition of United States’ hegemony on the world, and any state that rebels, it is imperative that such is disciplined, through blockade or military threat, or a direct attack, as was the case with Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Iran and Libya.

It as well means to impose economic policies that that please America through the interface of the international organizations she controls to a large extent, such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, and others.

It also means: to impose their own culture, which is based on the philosophy of materialism, utilitarian and justification of freedom to the extent of pornography, using the United Nations organs to pass this across at global conferences, directing nations to agree to it by intimidation and threats, or through promises and deceptions.
This was reflected in the Population Conference held in Cairo in the summer of 1994, where they wanted to pass the bill that would legalise abortion fully, and permit same sex family (marriage of men with men, and women with women) and permit children in sexual behavior, and the recognition of child born out of marriage, and other things that are contrary to all the revealed religions, and contrary to known and accepted practices among our societies which has become an integral part of it spiritually and culturally.
Hence, we found Al-Azhar in Egypt, the Muslim World League in Makkah, the Islamic Republic of Iran, standing side by side with the Vatican and the men of the church, to resist this devastating trend, as everyone felt they were facing a danger threatening the values of faith in God and His messages, and the morality that He sent with His messengers (peace be on them).

Paying attention to local realities:
Dear Muslims, yet with the Islamic discourse calling to universality and openness to the universe, it does not forget the regional realities and environment around it. The closest are more deserving to kindness, the Prophet – peace be upon him – says: “Start from yourself then those you cater for”(Muslim)
They ask you, [O Muhammad], what they should spend. Say, “Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.”(2:215)
It began with the parents and relatives, because they are more deserving than others.

Islam- though it regards the Islamic nation as one- it allows the distribution of Zakat of each region to the poor people in the same region itself. And when the messenger of Allah sent Muaaz bin Jabal to Yemen, he said to him: “Tell them that Allah has made payment of a charity obligatory on them, to be taken from their rich to be given to the indigent among them. (Agreed upon).

The position of religious discourse:
What is required of religious discourse today is to maintain a balance between global and local front, it should not be drown in the global culture, global politics, global economy, and global issues in the East and the West, while it does not care about his country and his family, he does not know their needs, nor hear the humiliated and feels their pains, or does not answer their questions, it does not seek to solve their problems.

All praises are due to Allah. We praise and thank Him, believe and depend on Him. I testify there is no god but Allah alone and I testify that our leader- Muhammad (pbuh) is his servant and messenger.  May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.
