IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL
Praises indeed to Allah (May He be exalted). We praise Him and seek His Help and Guidance. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils of our souls and our misdeeds. Whoever Allah has guided is the one that is indeed guided. And whoever is led astray, then for such, there is no helper/protector that can guide him. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. He is One and has no partner. I testify also that Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him) is Allah’s slave and messenger. May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him, his household, his companions in general and those that follow them.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ)[آل عمران:102]
Oh you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]-Q3 vs 102
(يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا)[النساء:1]
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer. – Q4 vs 1.
(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا * يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا)[الأحزاب:70-71].
O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment. – Q33:70-71.
Thereafter… The best speech is (that contained in) the book of Allah – the Qur’an, the best guidance is that of Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him), the worst of all matters are those that are newly invented (in the religion), (because) every newly invented matter is an (unlegislated religious) innovation, every such innovation is loss of guidance, and the loss of guidance leads to the Fire (of Jahannam).
Oh servants of Allah! The topic of our sermon today has to do with Umrah – the lesser Hajj, its pillars and obligations. This is so because we are in the months of Hajj, and it is imperative that a Muslim must first understand the act of worship that he wants to engage in beforehand, so that his worship would be acceptable (to Allah) and his good deeds rewarded.
Indeed, umrah is one of the major rites of Islaam, to which our Guardian, Allah (may He be exalted) encouraged his servants when He said: ((وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ)[البقرة:196] – “…and complete the Hajj and umrah for Allah.” – Q2:196.
Linguistically, umrah means, to intend a place and to visit a place. The scholars of religious jurisprudence however regard Umrah as the visit to the Sacred House of Allah (in Makkah) to engage in some specific rites. It is known as the lesser Hajj because it shares some of the rites with Hajj. The scholars of Islaam all agree that Umrah is legislated in the Sharia, but they differ on its ruling. While some of them say that it is obligatory to perform it at least once in a lifetime, others say it is only highly recommended (and not compulsory).
Whoever intends to do Umrah can do it at any time he wishes other than the days of Hajj. However, the best time to do it is in the month of Ramadan. This is because of the statement of our beloved Prophet (may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him): “ Performing Umrah in the month of Ramadan is like performing Hajj with me.” (Agreed upon). Whoever finds it difficult to do it in the month of Ramadan should then do it in one of the months of Hajj. This is (recommendable) because all the four Umrah the Prophet (may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him) performed in his lifetime were all in the months of Hajj.
Servants of Allah, in order to encourage the believers to perform Umrah, Islam established numerous virtues for it among which are :
Cleansing of sins and wrongdoings, the Prophet(SAW) said: An Umrahperformed after Umrah is an expiation of sins (that occur) between the two (periods). (Agreed Upon)
Another virtue is following umrah with Hajj in the same year or another year takes away poverty and sins, this is why the Prophet (SAW) encouraged performing them many times, he said: “Follow up between hajj and Umrah, because the two take away poverty and sins like the way smelting furnace or bellow removes the impurities iron and gold”(Tirmidhi and Nasai)
Oh believers, it is compulsory on whoever desires and determines to perform this great worship to do it sincerely for Allah SWT because Allah will not accept any deed except the one done sincerely for Him, Allah (the Exalted) says (أَلَا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ) “Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is due?” (Zumar: 3)
He must also learn the guidance of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him) on the performance of Umrah in order to observe it in the best manner because Allah will not accept any action that contradicts the Prophet’s guidance, this is why the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him) said: “Take your (hajj/Umrah) rites from me” (Muslim).
Dear servants of Allah: Umrah has three pillars without which the Umrah is not valid. They are: The Ihram (the intention of umrah), The Tawaaf(circumambulating round the kabah) and The Sa’y (walking between safa and Marwa).
Umrah also has the compulsory tasks which include :
Adorning the Ihram at the stipulated places (miqaat), putting off any sown materials for men, shaving the hair completely or cutting it down, and whoever leaves out any step among the compulsory tasks must slaughter an animal as expiation.
Oh the beloved ones: If Allah makes it easy for a Muslim to go to the sacred places in order to perform Umrah, he must take the Ihram at the stipulated place: this is having the intention of Umrah, which is called Ihram because it makes forbidden for the person all what were lawful before the Ihram like wearing sown materials. It is however, recommended for the performer of umrah before Ihram to clean up, take his bath, use perfume, then wears the izar and ridau (the two clothes of Ihram) and say: “labbayka allahummaumrah” (I answer you oh Allah for Umrah).
After taking the Umrah, the person will then abstain compulsorily from; cutting his hair, or nail, using perfume, covering the head, engaging in sexual relationships, or foreplay, or killing land game like antelope, rabbit, etc, it is also forbidden for men to wear sown materials like cloth, trousers, etc.
The person furthermore, circumambulate round the kabah seven times which he will start immediately he enters the sacred mosque starting from the black stone point and ending at the same place. If he is able to touch he should do that and kiss it, and say Allah Akbar and start his Tawaaf, but if he cannot, then he could touch it using a staff (stick) or any other thing then kiss what he uses to touch it, if however, that is not possible too, he should then point at it but he will not kiss his hand.
The person performing Umrah will walk between Sofa and Marwa seven times, he starts from Sofa and ends it at Marwa.
On approaching Sofa at the start of the first round, it is recommended for him to recite the word of Allah, the Exalted thus: (إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا وَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ) “Behold! Safa and Marwa are among the Symbols of Allah. So if those who visit the House in the Season or at other times, should compass them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeyeth his own impulse to good,- be sure that Allah is He Who recogniseth and knoweth”(2: 158). Then he says: “I start with what Allah begun with.” This should not be said except at the beginning of the first round of the Sa’y.
Then he shaves his hair or cut it low: When the performer of the Umrahfinishes the Sa’y, he will shave his hair or cut it low, the shaving is better, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed for the shavers three times and once for those that cut low their hairs. In the Saheeh, Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “May Allah have mercy on the shavers (of their hairs)“ They said: “And those who cut their hair low, O messenger of Allah” He said: “May Allah have mercy on the shavers (of their hairs)”They said: “And those who cut their hair low, O messenger of Allah” He said: “May Allah have mercy on the shavers (of their hairs)” They said: “And those who cut their hair low, O messenger of Allah” He said: “And those who cut their hair low”. In a narration: “O Allah, forgive them” (Ahmad). The woman does not have to shave, rather she only cut off the length of a fingertip from each braid of her hair.
We could summarize the description of the ‘Umrah in the following way: Whoever wants to perform the ‘Umrah should do the ihram at the miqat, then he should start to utter the talbiyah until he sights the Ka’bah, and he begins with the tawaaf round the Ka’bah, he should be in the state of purity (free from minor and major impurities including menses and janabah). If he finishes the tawaaf, he should observe two rak’ah prayer behind the MaqaamIbrahim, then he do the Sa’y between Sofaa and Marwa, then he shaves or shortens his hair, and by that he has completed the rites, and every thingforbidden due to the ihram becomes permissible. If the Muslim performs the pillars of the Umrah and fulfills its obligations, he has fulfilled his Umrahand his rewards secured, inshaa Allah.
I ask Allah to facilitate the visit for me and you to visit those holy places to perform the hajj and the Umrah.
THE SECOND SERMON
Praise be to Allaah and may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There are several proofs in the Qur’an and the Sunnah that enjoin marriage and begetting much of offsprings due to the abundant religious and worldly benefits in it. Allah the exalted said: (وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ) “We did send apostles before thee, and appointed for them wives and children: and it was never the part of an apostle to bring a sign except as Allah permitted (or commanded). For each period is a Book (revealed).” (13: 38)
Bukhari and Muslim narrated in Sahihayn from the hadeeth of ‘Abdullah IbnMas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “O young men, whoever among you is able should get married, for that is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity.”
The nation, the more it gets, the greater the honor and prestige, the much which is not attained in the case of low number. For this reason Allah granted favour to the children of Israel, saying: (وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا ) “We have made you more in number.” [Al-Isra: 6]. Shuaib reminded his people of that favour, Allah (Glory be to Him) says: (وَاذْكُرُوا إِذْ كُنْتُمْ قَلِيلًا فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ) “And remember when you were few and He increased you.” (Al-A’raaf: 86).
In the later era, voices began calling for limiting the number of offspring, condemning the abundance of reproduction, and fabricating various tales as methods of scaring people away. This was due to ignorance about the religion and hostility against, and the desire of some enemies of the religionof Islam to destroy the Islamic Ummah and weaken it by all means. They persistently entice people with the effectiveness of using contraception, and aversion to early marriage, and the denigration of polygamy, they becamearrogant, warning of population growth, and unavailability of resources, creating fear of impending disasters and horrors to be caused by the overpopulation. In the cause of that, they held conferences, mobilized soldiers and funds. And that is one of the goals of World Population Day, which is an annual event observed by the United Nations on 11 July, withthe aim of raising awareness on population issues. The day was first proclaimed by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 1989. This day was inspired by the July 11, 1987, global population which reached nearly five billion.
Allaah says: (وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ * بِأَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْ ) “And when the girl (who was) buried alive is asked.” (At-takweer: 8-9) Also Allah says: (وَلاَ تَقْتُلُوا أَوْلاَدَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلاَقٍ نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْئًا كَبِيرًا ) “Kill not your children for fear of want: We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin.” (Al-Isra: 31). Allah also says: (وَلاَ تَقْتُلُوا أَوْلاَدَكُمْ مِنْ إِمْلاَقٍ نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْ) “ kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them “ [Al-An’am: 151]. He also says: (قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوا أَوْلاَدَهُمْ سَفَهًا بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ) “Lost are those who slay their children, from folly, without knowledge …” [Al-An’am: 140]. Suprisingly, some of the countries that are advising the Islamic countries on birth control, mentioning its advantages and virtues, that it’s the symbol ofurbanization and advancement, they actually support large offspring in their country, encourages it, and are aware of its importance in nation building !!
Servants of Allah, beware of plot of the enemies and the injustice of the traitor kings, do not be tempted by the lies and paid tongues. Their situation is as Allah mentions it: (يرضونكم بأفواههم وتأبى قلوبهم) “They satisfy you with their mouths but their hearts refuse (compliance).
We ask Allaah to bless us with abundant wealth and children, and to grant us Halal provision and bless it for us, Excellent is He as the protector, and Excellent is He as the helper. Seek blessing upon your Prophet, invoking blessing on him on a day like this is more encouraged, better, and greater. Oh Allah, bless him, his family and companions.
