IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL
THE BLESSED EID AL-ADHA KHUTBAH FOR THE YEAR 1446 AH (2025 CE)
DATED: 10 DHUL-HIJJAH 1446 AH / 6 JUNE 2025 CE
All praise is due to Allah we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomever He allows to go astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
Thereafter, O believers! Fear Allah, as He says:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا
“O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great success.” Surah al-Ahzab (33:70–71)
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no deity but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.
All praise is due to Allah in abundance. Glory be to Allah morning and evening.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, every time the blessed Eid al-Adha returns to us with its memories, its lessons, its objectives, and its lofty goals.
Among the objectives of this Eid:
1. Establishing the remembrance of Allah
Allah the Exalted says: وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْلُومَاتٍ
“And mention the name of Allah on known days…” Surah al-Hajj (22:28)
And He also says: وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْدُودَاتٍ
“And remember Allah during the appointed days…” Surah al-Baqarah (2:203)
2. Following the Sunnah of the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers
On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice two rams with horns, white with black markings. He would say the name of Allah and say ‘Allahu Akbar’ when slaughtering them. I saw him slaughtering them with his own hand, placing his foot on their sides.” Narrated by Ahmad
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.
3. Reviving the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him)
He saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his firstborn son from Hajar – and the dreams of the prophets are true and a form of revelation. When he awoke, he called his son and said:
يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ
“O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice you, so see what you think.” Surah al-Saffat (37:102)
And the son responded in the tone of a patient, accepting, and believing soul in Allah’s decree:
يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ
“O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, among the patient.” Surah al-Saffat (37:102)
He offered his neck in submission to his father, and the father took the knife to fulfill the command of his Lord, sacrificing what was dearest to his heart. But when both father and son passed the test, their Lord called out:
“O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision. Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, this was the clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice. And We left for him (favorable mention) among later generations: Peace be upon Ibrahim. Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.” Surah al-Saffat (37:104–111)
This is true faith: knowledge and action.
This is true sacrifice: learning from it the readiness to give what is most precious – sacrificing life, time, and wealth – for the sake of this religion and its propagation to the horizons.
Each of us, from our position, can serve Islam: (1) through knowledge we master and spread, (2) a language we speak and use for da‘wah, (3) a skill or profession we excel in, (4) or expertise we can teach.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “لَا تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا”
“Do not belittle any good deed, even if it is small.” — Narrated by Muslim
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How magnificent it is when we gather to remember Allah, love Him, and obey Him out of faith in Him and seeking His pleasure.
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How magnificent it is when hearts are drawn to the Ancient House (Kaʿbah), and the believers come to it:
﴿ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ * لِيَشْهَدُوا مَنَافِعَ لَهُمْ وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْلُومَاتٍ ﴾
“Coming on foot and on every lean camel, coming from every distant pass – that they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days…” (Surah al-Ḥajj, 22:27–28)
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How magnificent it is when the pilgrims perform Ṭawāf around the House!
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How magnificent it is when people walk between Ṣafā and Marwah!
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How majestic it is when people stand on the plains of ʿArafāt, remembering the Greater Standing before Allah on the Day of Resurrection!
Allāhu Akbar for every Muslim who sacrifices their animals in obedience to their Lord and in reverence of His rites: ﴿
“That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.” (Surah al-Ḥajj, 22:32)
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
How beautiful it is when Muslims visit one another on this noble day—when the wealthy support the poor, the healthy care for the sick, and the strong help the weak, bringing joy to hearts and peace to minds.
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Lā ilāha illa Allāh! Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, wa lillāhil-ḥamd!
O servants of Allah! Among the important duties, etiquettes, and Sunnahs to uphold on this blessed day after the Eid prayer are:
1. Exchanging greetings: Congratulate your fellow Muslims in any known expression, such as: “Taqabbalallāhu minnā wa mink” – “May Allah accept from us and from you.” (Reported by al-Bayhaqī)
2. Taking a different route when returning home: On the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: “The Prophet ﷺ would return via a different route on the day of Eid.” (Reported by al-Bukhārī)
Ibn Rushd said: “Scholars have unanimously agreed that it is recommended to return through a different route from the one used to go to the prayer, as established by his ﷺ practice.” (Bidayat al-Mujtahid, 1/233)
Among the wisdoms behind this: to make more places witness his worship, to meet more fellow Muslims for greetings and ties, and so forth.
3. Devoting yourself to the sacrifice of your animal
As the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever sacrifices before the prayer, then it is merely meat for his family. But whoever sacrifices after the prayer, then his sacrifice is complete and he has followed the Sunnah of the Muslims.” (Reported by al-Bukhārī)
According to the Mālikī school: “Whoever slaughters before the Imām does, must repeat it.” As the Prophet ﷺ said: “Let no one slaughter until we have prayed.” (Reported by Aḥmad)
Be sincere and seek Allah’s pleasure with your sacrifice: ﴿
“Say: Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.”
(Surah al-Anʿām, 6:162)
Allah also says: ﴿
“So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].” (Surah al-Kawthar, 108:2)
Etiquettes of Slaughter:
- Use your right hand and a sharp tool.
- Sharpen the knife away from the animal’s sight.
- Treat the animal gently; do not drag it harshly or strike it.
- Offer it water before slaughter in case it is thirsty.
- Lay it on its right side facing the Qiblah.
- Mention Allah’s name before slaughtering.
Allah says: ﴿
“So eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses.”
(Surah al-Anʿām, 6:118)
Say: “Bismillāh, Allāhu Akbar. Allāhumma hādhā minka wa laka, hādhā ‘annī.”
“In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, this is from You and for You. This is on my behalf.”
If someone appointed you, say: “Hādhā ‘an fulān” – “This is on behalf of so-and-so.” If not, your intention suffices.
Do not cut anything from it until it has fully died and cooled. Do not slaughter one animal in front of another.
Recommended distribution:
- Eat one third.
- Gift one third to the wealthy.
- Give one third to the poor.
This is taken from Allah’s saying: ﴿
“Then eat from them and feed the needy who do not ask and the one who does.” (Surah al-Ḥajj, 22:36)
Thus, three portions are implied:
- “فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا” – Eat a portion.
Feed the one who asks.
And give to the one who does not ask.
Even though exact thirds are not obligatory, the spirit of generosity is recommended.
You may also give all of it in charity, or store some for later. Alḥamdulillāh for the ease of Islam!
Important Note: It is not permissible to give the butcher a portion of the Uḍḥiyah as payment. Nor is it permissible to sell the skin of the sacrificed animal.
The Prophet ﷺ forbade that. ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed me to oversee his camels and to give their meat, skins, and coverings in charity, and not to give the butcher anything from them. He said: We will give him from our own wealth.” (Reported by Muslim)
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar!
Fourthly: Bringing Joy to the Family and Children:
This includes expanding provisions and bringing happiness to the family through permissible entertainment, while adhering to Islamic guidelines, because it is a day of Eid.
Fifthly: Maintaining Family Ties (Ṣilat al-Raḥim)
It is essential to seize the opportunity of Eid to strengthen ties with relatives—through direct visits, phone calls, or modern means of communication—due to the great virtue of maintaining kinship and the severe warning against severing it.
O Servants of Allah,
Today, two Eids have coincided for you: the annual Eid and the weekly Eid, namely Eid al-Aḍḥā and Jumu‘ah (Friday). The scholars of the Ummah have differed greatly on this issue. The summary is: it is preferable for whoever prayed the Eid to also pray Jumu‘ah, in order to avoid scholarly disagreement. But whoever follows the opinion that Jumu‘ah is not obligatory for the one who prayed Eid, there is no blame upon him; however, he must perform Ẓuhr prayer.
Mokwa Flood Disaster
O Believing Servants of Allah, on this blessed day of Eid, and amidst the sadness that clouds our hearts due to the disaster that has afflicted our brothers in the area of Mokwa, Niger State, from devastating floods and destructive torrents, we stand in this moment with solidarity and compassion.
The Islamic world has closely followed the painful tragedy that struck them—innocent souls perished, homes were demolished, families were displaced, and crops and properties were destroyed. Indeed, by Allah, it is a great calamity, especially in a time when Eid celebrations were expected to bring joy and completeness.
However, we comfort ourselves and them with the understanding that Eid, despite the sadness, is an opportunity to renew hope, strengthen patience, activate cooperation, and strive to relieve the suffering of the afflicted.
We ask Allah to relieve our people there, to heal their wounds, to remove their affliction, and to accept those who died among them as martyrs.
O Muslims, disasters and calamities are not void of divine wisdom. They are tests from Allah, trials of our patience, gratitude, and solidarity. Allah Almighty said:
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.” (Surah al-Baqarah, 2:155)
Among the signs of faith is to respond sincerely in such trials: to console the afflicted, pray for the suffering, give charity to those in need, and cooperate together to remove harm and aid the victims.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي تَوَادِّهِمْ وَتَرَاحُمِهِمْ وَتَعَاطُفِهِمْ مَثَلُ الْجَسَدِ؛ إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنْهُ عُضْوٌ، تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ بِالسَّهَرِ وَالْحُمَّى»
“The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like that of a body: when any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” (Narrated by Muslim)
So where are we from this meaning? Where are the relief organizations? Where are the people of goodness? Where are the residents of the community, the state, and even the nation?
The duty of the moment is to extend all possible means of aid.
O Servants of Allah, our responsibility in this catastrophe is not limited to crying and supplication. Rather, we must translate our emotions into action. Charity extinguishes the wrath of the Lord and becomes a means to lift affliction. The Prophet ﷺ said: «دَاوُوا مَرْضَاكُمْ بِالصَّدَقَةِ»
“Treat your sick with charity.” (Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī)
Furthermore, it is an obligation upon officials and those in charge to hasten to provide emergency shelter, food, water, and medical care, and to also engage in long-term planning to reduce the damage of floods in the future.
May Allah bless me and you in the Great Qur’an, and benefit me and you with the verses and the wise reminder contained in it. I say what you hear, and I ask Allah the Almighty to forgive me and you and all the Muslims. So seek His forgiveness and then repent to Him; indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
THE SECOND SERMON:
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, who says in His Noble Book:
﴿ وَلْتَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴾
“And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.” (Al-Imran 3:104)
And blessings and peace be upon the bearer of good tidings and warner, his family, his companions, and those who follow them.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. Praise be to Allah, abundant praise. Glory be to Allah morning and evening. Allah is the Greatest, the Most Great.
Waging war against Deviant Ideologies
O Muslims, recently there has appeared the sedition of a misguided, polytheistic group known by these letters (RMQK) for short. They claim these letters represent the names of four of the jinn or spirits as they assert: Raoqayail, Marqatiyail, Qayqayail, and Kashfayail. Their base is in the city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, founded by a man called Maruf Abolade Salahuddin Adagunja, nicknamed by his followers as “the Greater Spirit” (Emi Agba).
They claim spirituality and esoteric knowledge, disguising themselves behind the veil of Islam and religion, but they are entirely disassociated from it. This group claims communication with jinn, summons them in their sessions, and alleges they possess the keys to the unseen, healing, and blessing. Allah Almighty says:
“And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him.” (Al-An’am 6:59)
O servants of Allah, communicating with jinn and angels and seeking help from them is major shirk (polytheism), and Allah has forbidden it in His Book. He says:
“And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.”(Al-Jinn 72:6)
The greatest duty upon us regarding this misguided group (RMQK) and others like them is:
- It is incumbent upon scholars to warn against them and their errors and not remain silent on their falsehoods.
- To spread correct knowledge and pure monotheism among the people.
- To support the scholars and righteous callers and to turn to them in times of tribulation.
- Not to be deceived by the deceptive appearances and false slogans raised by these groups.
O servants of Allah, in your joy on your Eid day, know—may Allah have mercy on you—that our Eid is incomplete if we forget Gaza, which is in displacement and destruction. Do not forget your brothers in Gaza and Palestine in your prayers and solidarity, and raise awareness among generations about the justice of their cause. Blood has been shed from among them, wounds have burdened them, hunger has weakened them, and both near and distant have abandoned them. So, give from your wealth what will comfort children without toys, clothes, or eyes that dance with joy. Allah says:
“The believers are but brothers.” (Al-Hujurat 49:10)
And the Prophet ﷺ said: “The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like one body; when any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” (Narrated by Muslim)
So it is obligatory upon us to support them according to our ability and capacity. (AQSAH CONCEPTS, 0005125108, JAIZ BANK)
Challenges Facing Our Nation Nigeria and the Islamic Solution
Servants of Allah,
We live in a beloved homeland—Nigeria—a country blessed by Allah with abundant wealth, diverse resources, and a noble, religious people. However, despite these blessings, no one is unaware of the grave challenges our nation faces in various sectors: rising unemployment, extreme poverty, inflation, weak infrastructure, deteriorating education and health services, not to mention administrative and financial corruption, and security breakdowns ranging from theft and kidnapping to attacks on lives and property.
O Muslims, these challenges are not beyond solution. Rather, our great religion—Islam—has come with a comprehensive methodology that addresses such crises through a divine and just perspective. Allah Almighty says:
“And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things.” [Surah An-Nahl: 89]
Islam does not stop at spiritual advice alone, but extends to lay down the foundations of political, economic, and social reform. Below are some Islamic solutions to our nation’s problems:
1. Fighting Corruption through Trust and Accountability
The Prophet ﷺ said: “كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ، وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْؤُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ” [رواه البخاري ومسلم]
“Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock.” [Reported by Bukhari and Muslim] No nation can prosper if trust is betrayed and accountability is absent.
2. Establishing Social Justice
Allah Almighty says: ﴿
“Indeed, Allah commands justice and excellence…” [Surah An-Nahl: 90]. Justice is the foundation of national stability; through it, hearts find peace, and societies flourish.
3. Reviving Zakah, Waqf, and Mutual Solidarity
Among the greatest Islamic solutions to poverty and unemployment are the institutions of Zakah, Waqf (endowment), and social solidarity. Zakah, being one of the pillars of Islam, aims to fairly distribute wealth between the rich and the poor.
4. Implementing Islamic and Moral Education
We need to build human beings on correct faith (ʿAqīdah)and high values. Through knowledge and faith, nations and generations are built and societies flourish.
Servants of Allah, in the spirit of fairness and justice, we must commend certain positive efforts. Recently, the Federal Government announced the full repayment of all loans it had borrowed from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)—a sum of $3.4 billion, which had been obtained as financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a commendable step toward reducing economic dependency and breaking free from the pressure of foreign debt.
However, as Muslims, we must also warn that interest-bearing loans (ribā), even if they appear to offer temporary benefit, lead to disastrous consequences in both this world and the Hereafter. Allah says:
“O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.” [Surah Al-Baqarah: 278]
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
“درهمُ رِبًا يأكله الرجلُ وهو يعلم، أشدُّ عند اللهِ من ستٍّ وثلاثين زَنِيَةً” [رواه أحمد والطبراني، وحسّنه الألباني]
“One dirham of ribā that a man knowingly consumes is worse in the sight of Allah than committing zina thirty-six times.” [Reported by Ahmad and At-Tabarani; graded Hasan by Al-Albani]
Ribā is among the gravest causes of Allah’s anger and the collapse of barakah (divine blessing) in wealth and the economy.
O Muslims! It is our obligation toward our homeland, Nigeria, to be agents of reform and not corruption, to spread virtue and not vice, to raise our children upon the love of Allah and the love of the nation, and to fulfill trust and responsibility in every position we hold. We must honor the scholars—whether alive or deceased—and we take this opportunity to pray for those among them who passed away in this year: May Allah forgive them and preserve the legacy of their righteous deeds, such as Shaykh Abdur-Rasheed Hadiyyatu-Llaah, Shaykh Abdur-Rasheed Buwaib, Shaykh Qamarud-Deen Ajala, Shaykh Qaasim Durojaye, and many others.
Servants of Allah, as we conclude this khutbah, we offer a special counsel to Muslim women: O noble sister, you are the pillar of the home and the school of generations. Fear Allah in your clothing, your hijab, your manners, and your religion. Be a model of chastity and modesty.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “الدُّنْيَا مَتَاعٌ، وَخَيْرُ مَتَاعِهَا الْمَرْأَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ”
“The world is a temporary enjoyment, and the best enjoyment of it is a righteous woman.”(Narrated by Muslim)
Do not respond to the kindness of your husband with ingratitude or denial of his favors. Try your best to appreciate and preserve his good treatment toward you.
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“إِذَا صَلَّتِ الْمَرْأَةُ خَمْسَهَا، وَصَامَتْ شَهْرَهَا، وَحَفِظَتْ فَرْجَهَا، وَأَطَاعَتْ زَوْجَهَا، قِيلَ لَهَا: ادْخُلِي الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أَيِّ أَبْوَابِهَا شِئْتِ”
“If a woman prays her five (daily prayers), fasts her month (Ramadan), guards her chastity, and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise through whichever of its gates you wish.” (Reported by Ahmad and At-Tabarani)
Supplication (duʿāʾ): O Allah, forgive our deceased in every place, and admit them into the vastness of Your Paradise. Relieve our oppressed brothers in Palestine. O Allah, be for them a Protector and Supporter, a Helper and Sustainer, and a Rescuer and Defender. O Allah, deal with the transgressing Zionists—surely, they cannot overpower You. O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in all matters and determination in righteousness. We ask You to enable us to be grateful for Your blessings, to worship You in excellence, to grant us a sound heart and a truthful tongue.
We ask You from the best of what You know, and we seek refuge with You from the evil of what You know, and we seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Truly, You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, be with the pilgrims of Your Sacred House across the East and West of the earth. O Allah, show them the truth as truth and grant them the ability to follow it, and show them falsehood as falsehood and grant them the ability to avoid it. O Allah, make their Hajj an accepted one, their efforts appreciated, their sins forgiven, and their deeds accepted. Return them to their families safely and forgiven, as pure as the day they were born.
O Allah, grant us security in our lands and repel from us trials and evils. Rectify our leaders and support them with the truth. Establish security and stability in our nation. O Allah, we ask You for all goodness—immediate and future—what we know of and what we do not. And we seek refuge with You from all evil—immediate and future—what we know of and what we do not. O Allah, honor Islam and the Muslims, improve the conditions of Muslims in every place, and answer our prayers. Truly, You are the Hearer of supplication.
