All praises belong to Allah. We praise Him, we seek His Assistance and His Forgiveness, and we repent unto Him. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils of my soul and my bad conduct. Whoever Allah has guided is the one that is indeed guided and nobody can lead such astray. And whoever is led astray, then for such, there is no helper/protector that can guide him. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone. He has no partner or associate. I testify also that Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) is His slave and Messenger. May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be on him, his household, his companions and all thos ethat follow them in goodness till the Day of Judgment.

Thereafter… Oh people! I admonish you and myself with the fear of Allah, the Most Glorified and Majestic. So fear Allah in all that He commanded and all that He prohibited. It is indeed with the fear of Allah comes Success and Salvation from the Fire, in accordance with the Words of Allah Ta’alah: “O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].” (Aal-Imraan:102).

Brothers in Faith! The topic of our sermon today is about Early Islamic Marriage: Happiness and Protection. One of the things that Allah jas commanded us to do is hasten and be early in getting married for the benefit therein in protecting the private part – from Zinah – and purifying the society from immorality. So Allah Ta’alah commanded everybody that is concerned to make the marriage process easy: ‘And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all Encompassing and Knowing.’ [An-Nuur: 32].
The prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) directed youths towards this good when he (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Oh you youths, whoever of you is able to get married, let him get married. It would help me lower his gaze and protect his private part.’ [Bukhaari and Muslim], and then his saying that: ‘get married to women that would give birth to many children. I would be proud with your number among [other] prophets on the Day of Ressurection.’

While early marriage helps in really lowering of the gaze and protecting the private part, cleansing the society of immorality, protecting from Zinah, being proud of the size of the Ummah and strengthening it, delaying marriage would void all these benefits, so youths are enmeshed in immorality, especially in these times when the are many causes and facilitating factors.

So oh you Muslims, let us fear Allah and ensure that we make marriage easy and making it early. It would help preserve the morals and characters of the youth and encourage a sense of responsibility. It is the best for the wellbeing of both spouses but especially for the wife. Let not anyone be deceived by what they say that early marriage would disrupt their education or distract them from their studies. Rather, the truth that has been shown and proven by experience is that getting married brings about self-composure, calmness, a tranquil heart, a restful conscience and cool eyes. It brings forth clarity and purity of mind and thought, and safety from anxiety, and these are all things that help to achieve more.

Let us be wary of what they say that early marriage burdens the young man with responsibility of spending on the wife and children. This is clearly from weakness of faith and trust in the Creator, the Provider, the Owner of the most enduring Power. Rather, marriage is a source of blessed sustenance, because it is obedience to Allah and His Messenger (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), and obedience to Allah in all ways are means of attaining good and blessings. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) has said: ‘It is upon Allah to help three categories of people… ’ and he mentioned as one of them, ‘…the one who gets married because of his/her chastity.’ [Tirmidhiy].

This is how Islaam encourages marriage and the early muslims responded and they facilitated it and made it easy. Getting married was one of the simplest and easiest for them. However, people after them, especially in this our time, has made what Allah commanded to be made easy to be difficult, and have constricted and tightened what Allah commanded to be relaxed, they made hard for themselves what Allah did not make hard for them, so much that now we see celibacy among the youth and perpetual spinsterhood among young women. We see young men who are in their thirties and are not married. We see ladies who are in their thirties and not married and not likely to be married anytime soon – the case when people say she has missed the train.

Why is all this so? By Allah! We created this problem. The problem came as a result of the obstacles we set up in the path of marriage, obstacles caused by people being far from the tenets and etiquettes of the Religion and the Sharee’ah, and also abandoning the Sunnah, and occupying themselves with side issues and marginal matters, matters that have no short or long term bearing with the success of nikaah, ie the marriage contract. Rather, they are the reasons for its failure. These issues include expensive bride price, marriage materials that are sought by the grooms, excesses in expensive clothes and jewelleries, extravagance and wastage in food and drinks, ostentatious invitations and parties and just false society show-off.

May Allah shower His Mercy on whoever anyone who is early in marriage and conducts it according to the Sunnah, who makes the best choice and makes it easy, who humbles himself and is not arrogant. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘if anyone comes to you, whose character and religion you are pleased with, to seek marriage, then get him married, otherwise, there would be tribulation on the land and a blantant corruption’. He (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) also said: ‘The world is a place of pleasure, and the best pleasing there is a pious wife.’ He (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) also said: ‘Women are married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty and her religion; select the one who has religion, so you hand is blessed.’ He (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) also said: ‘Among the blessed women is the one whose engagement and dowry are easy.’

Then there are some young people who delays marriage because he dreams of an ideal woman as wife who is perfect in beauty and otherwise. There is no such woman anywhere. There is hardly perfection in life. Some women would be beautiful, others would be wealthy, while others would be of noble lineage. As for finding everything in one person, this is ever hardly so found together. It’s a similar thing with men. Nobody calls to these fantasies and needless exaggerations.

All praises are due to Allah and prayer peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.

Dear Servants of Allah, the responsibility to marry off the unmarried ones is upon us – all of us Muslims – the responsibility of the fathers and mothers, the guardians among the relatives, then the Muslim community and those in charge of people’s affairs in the country. The supplies for the marriage of the unmarried ones among the poor Muslims would be provided for from the Muslims treasury. This is what some of the governors do in northern Nigeria to organize mass marriages for singles and bear its costs in response to the command of Allah the Exalted in His Holy Book:

(وَأَنْكِحُوا الأَيَامَى مِنْكُمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَآئِكُمْ إِنْ يَكُونُوا فُقَرَاءَ يُغْنِهِمُ اللهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَاللهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ)

"And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your males and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-encompassing and Knowing." (An-Nur: 32).

The responsibility is also upon the unmarried ones themselves, by reconsidering their views and dreams, being realistic, and placing religious and moral considerations over others (considerations). For all goodness is in the religion. We ask Allah the Exalted to guide us to do that which He loves and is pleased with, for He is the Al-Hearing, Near, and Responsive.

Dear Muslims, It is worthy of note at the moment regarding the gruesome killing of some rice farmers in Borno state perpetrated by Boko Haram on Saturday, November 28, 2020 in Kwashebe village, Mafa Local government, near Maiduguri, Borno state, northeastern Nigeria .

This act is highly repugnant and a major sins to which the Islamic Sharia have prescribed a severe and painful punishment for it in this world and the hereafter.

From reliable sources received from the media, the criminals were said to have slaughtered peasant farmers just as livestock are slaughtered one after the other .. Subhaanallah !!!.

The Almighty has said the Almighty:

"Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment" [Al-Maidah: 33].

Therefore, the federal government and the state government of Borno must seek a definitive solution to this ever-present and dangerous menace.
