I heard that it is not allow in Islam for couples after performing janabah to clean themselves up with the same single towel as this can cause separation between them. Is this true?
Wa alaykum Salam Warahmatullah Wabarakaatuh,
It is permissible in Islam for the couple to take ghusl or an ordinary bath together and from the same basin. This is the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad sallalahu alayhi wasallam. Ibn Abbas (R.A) narrated that “Maimunah informed me that she and the prophet use to take bath from one basin.” (reported by Imam Muslim).
However, with regards to your question that it is not allow in Islam for couples after performing janabah to clean themselves up with the same single towel as this can cause separation between them.
There is no evidence that supports this claim that I know of. Such claim is falsehood, far away from the truth. Using the same towel by the couple after bath cannot cause any separation.
Firstly: We should not encourage evil thoughts about ourselves and our properties. Anas b. Malik reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There is no transitive disease (a disease that spread on its own volition), no divination, but good omen pleases me. It was said: What is good omen? He said: Sacred words.
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There is no transitive disease (a disease that spread on its own volition), no safar (having bad thoughts about the month), no hama. A desert Arab said: Allah’s Messenger, how is it that when the camel is in the sand it is like a deer- then a camel afflicted with scab mixes with it and it is affected by sub ? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Who infected the first one?
Secondly: Islam encourages sharing between the couple, it as well encourages closeness with the woman during her menstrual period. Her state of impurity does not make her body impure, for the body of a believer (male or female) is not an impurity, even when any of them is in a state of impurity of Janabah, menstruation, or nifas (post birth blood).
The prophet- pbuh, shared the drinking cup with Aisha (R.A) his lovely wife, and in fact placed his mouth at the spot from where she drank from while she was menstruating without any fear for break up between them.
This situation was where the woman- Aisha was in an impure state, talkless of where the two (couples as stated in your question) were in a state of impurity and both purified themselves by performing the ghusl.
Allah knows best.
