In The Name Of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the lord of the worlds, the sustainer of the heavens and earth, the disposer of the affairs of all creation who honoured man with the best prophet. I praise and thank Him for His grace and honour and beseech Him for more. I testify there is no god but Allah alone, the compassionate, the merciful, the generous, the Perpetual Forgiver. I testify that our leader- Muhammad (pbuh) is his servant and messenger, his beloved and chosen one among his creation, the leader of the children of Adam.  He is the leader of the messengers, the seal of prophets, the mercy offered to the universe, the illuminating lamp. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.

Having said that,

Dear Muslims, I enjoin you and I to fear Allah in accordance with the verse:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ ( آل عمران : 102 )

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].” (3: 102) . Allah says:

Today being the fifth sermon in the month of Rabi’ul- Awwal of the birth of the holy prophet (pbuh), our topic is titled THE ETIQIETTES OF RELATING WITH THE PROPHET (PBUH), having discussed THE MIRACLES OF THE PROPHET (PBUH) last week.

The etiquettes of relating with the Prophet (pbuh)

Dear honoured Muslims we would summarize the etiquettes of relating with the Prophet (PBUH) as follow:

Allah says: (“مَنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ “ (النِّساء :80 )) “He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah; but those who turn away – We have not sent you over them as a guardian. (4:80)

Allah also warns: (فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ( النّور :63)) So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet’s order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.” (24:63)

2- Believing him concerning every information he brought; past and future.

One of the fundamentals of faith is the firm belief in every information he conveyed, including the account of the earlier nations, and unseen matters in the future, because all these are revelations from Allah, the Exalted.

“By the star when it descends. Your companion (Muhammad) has not strayed, nor has he erred. Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (4)   It is not but a revelation revealed” (53: 3-4)

“That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, (O Muhammad). You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the (best) outcome is for the righteous.” (11: 49).

3- Emulating him (pbuh) in all words and actions: Allah says:

(قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ) ““Say, (O Muhammad), “If you should love Allah, then follow me, (so) Allah will love you …” (3: 31)

And establish prayer and give zakat and obey the Messenger- that you may receive mercy.” (24: 56)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Bukhari reported from Malik bn Huwairith, he said: the Prophet (pbuh) said: “Observe solat the same way you see me observe it.” (Bukhari).

Narrated by Muslim: Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) flinging pebbles while riding his camel on the Day of Nahr, and he was saying: Learn your rituals (by seeing me performing them), for I do not know whether I would be performing Hajj after this Hajj of mine.

4- Desisting from whatever he warned against: Allah:

Allaah has enjoined all people to obey the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding all he commanded and to avoid all he forbade and he warned them against violating his command (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

If anyone contends with the Messenger even after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that becoming to men of Faith, We shall leave him in the path he has chosen, and land him in Hell,- what an evil refuge!” (4: 115)

(فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ) “So let those beware who dissent from the Messenger’s order, lest some trial befall them, or a grievous penalty be inflicted on them.” (24: 63).

Narrated Abu hurairah, that the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)  said, “Everyone of my Ummah will enter Jannah except those who refuse”. He was asked: “Who will refuse?” He () said, “Whoever obeys me, shall enter Jannah, and whosoever disobeys me, refuses to (enter Jannah)” (Bukhari).

5- Placing the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him) before the words of all people:

Allah says: (يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ) O Ye who believe! Put not yourselves forward before Allah and His Messenger. but fear Allah. for Allah is He Who hears and knows all things.” (49: 1) Abdullah bn Abbas said: (Put not yourselves forward before Allah and His Messenger) meaning: “Do not say in contrary to The Book and The Sunnah” (Tafsir Tabari, 24; 352).

6- Loving him (pbuh) beyond wealth, parent and all people:

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “None of you has faith until I am more beloved to him than his father, his children, and all of the people.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Hishaam said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he was holding the hand of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab. ‘Umar said to him: “O Messenger of Allaah, you are dearer to me than everything except my own self.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, not until I am dearer to you than your own self.” ‘Umar said to him: “Now, by Allaah, you are dearer to me than my own self.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Now (you are a true believer), O ‘Umar.” (Bukhari: 6632).

7- Accepting the judgement of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with satisfaction:

Allah says: (فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّى يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا ) “No, by your Lord, they are not believers until they make you their judge in the disputes that break out between them and then do not resist what you decide and submit themselves [to you] completely.” (4: 65).

8- Making the Prophet (peace be upon him) our exemplary model:

Allah says: (لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا (الأحزاب :21))

There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.” (33: 21)

Ibn Kathir said: “This Ayah is an important principle, to follow the Messenger of Allah in all his words, and deeds, etc. Hence Allah commanded the people to take the Prophet as an example on the day of Al-Ahzab, with regard to patience, guarding, striving and waiting for Allah to provide the way out; may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him forever, until the Day of Judgement. Allah says to those who were anxious and impatient and were shaken by feelings of panic on the day of Al-Ahzab: (Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow) meaning, `why do you not take him as an example and follow his lead‘ (Tafsir Ibn Kathir: 11, pgs 133- 134).

All praises are due to Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his household, companions and whoever follows them till the day of recompense.

As to what follows,
We consider it worthwhile at this moment to advise the politicians to avoid hate speeches and actions at this time of the commencement of the election campaign. So that every political party project their manifesto without insulting others so as to avoid political crises.

Secondly, we commend the federal government for its generosity to the citizens by reducing the Jamb Registration Fee from five thousand naira to three thousand five hundred naira.

Oh Allah descend peace; flowing with continuous tranquility and security upon Nigeria and all other Muslim nations. O Allah accept the worship of the pilgrims of hajj and Umrah, and grant us all Your pleasure, And the last of our call will be, “Praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds!”
