TIME FOR ACTION: TMC DEMANDS URGENT SECURITY REFORMS
The Muslim Congress (TMC) expresses profound concern over the escalating security crisis sweeping across the nation, threatening its peace and stability. Recent events have highlighted the fragility of our security architecture and the urgent need for decisive intervention from the highest levels of government.
We gratefully acknowledge the gallantry of the Nigerian security forces in successfully foiling the June 24 terrorist attack in Bangi community, Niger State. This heroic intervention prevented a potential tragedy and demonstrates the dedication of our armed forces to protect the nation. We pay special tribute to the 17 brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in this operation and extend our deepest condolences to their families and colleagues. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten
However, this hard-won victory in Niger State stands in stark contrast to the devastating security failures elsewhere in the nation. The coordinated massacre in Yelewata community, Benue State, claiming over 200 lives, revealed a security apparatus stretched beyond its limits. While we celebrate the pockets of successes by our troops, we cannot ignore the systemic vulnerabilities these attacks expose.
The Congress, however, commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his compassionate leadership in personally visiting the State following the devastating attack. This demonstration of empathy and commitment to finding lasting solutions is highly commendable and reflects the Prophetic tradition of leaders standing with their people in times of trial.
While acknowledging these positive developments, we urge sustained action to completely secure our nation. The recent horrific ambush and cold-blooded murder of 12 innocent travelers from Kaduna State in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, underscores the urgent need for comprehensive security measures. These victims, en route to a wedding, had their lives brutally extinguished in an act that violates every tenet of humanity and our shared national values. This tragedy serves as a stark wake-up call.
As Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must now demonstrate true leadership by mobilizing the full might of the state against these purveyors of violence. The time for rhetoric has passed – we demand concrete, decisive action. The President must establish a comprehensive security framework capable of dismantling the networks of terror that have operated with impunity for too long.
The Muslim Congress urgently calls for a comprehensive security strategy. This strategy should immediately include clearing terrorist enclaves from forest hideouts and establishing state-level security complements to federal forces, especially in high-risk areas. Furthermore, the government must address both immediate threats and underlying causes, such as unemployment and communal tensions. Swift justice for perpetrators of these acts of terror, delivered through special courts, is also essential.
The Muslim Congress supports ongoing efforts to strengthen security architecture across all levels of government. We particularly welcome initiatives to enhance community policing and local security frameworks. As Allah (SWT) instructs in the Qur’an (8:60): “And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy…”
However, true security transcends military might. Addressing the country’s security challenges demands a holistic strategy encompassing enhanced security measures and a profound national moral and spiritual renewal. We urge the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and similar bodies to launch a nationwide campaign emphasizing the fear of God, the sanctity of human life, mutual respect and the accountability for evil actions in this world and the Hereafter. This campaign should foster a collective moral consciousness, strengthening the very fabric of our society and creating a more secure and just nation for all.
Nigerians deserve peace and security – a fundamental responsibility of any government. We, therefore, stand united with all affected communities and call on all Nigerians to support legitimate efforts to restore order in the country. The time for action is now – our nation’s survival demands nothing less.

Amir, The Muslim Congress
